DOWNEY – Stauffer Middle School teacher Tri Tansopalucks and a handful of students will travel to Indianapolis Sunday after being invited to present at the Project Lead the Way National Summit. 

Project Lead the Way is a national engineering program that provides a comprehensive approach to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. 

On Tuesday Tansopalucks and his students will highlight their work, including mobile apps the students have built. 

Tansaopalucks and his students will also attend workshop sessions, special events, and participate in a video interview highlighting the Project Lead the Way program at Stauffer Middle School. 

Project Lead the Way is covering the cost of the trip. 

In December, Project Lead the Way and Verizon chose Stauffer Middle School to pilot and integrate Introduction to Computer Science, a program that provided tools and technology to help middle school students learn computer science. 

“We are proud and honored that Project Lead the Way has elected to recognize Stauffer Middle School’s outstanding Project Lead the Way program,” said DUSD board president D. Mark Morris. “Being the only middle school taking the stage and presenting at this national summit, this experience will be one our students will never forget.” 

More than 1,500 people are expected to attend Project Lead the Way’s national summit, including students, educators, and those in the government and business sectors.
