DOWNEY - Downey residents Freddy Clark and Alaina Nieman will compete in the Toastmaster's Area Contest on Aug. 29 at 8:30 a.m. at the Smart & Final corporate offices in Commerce, 600 Citadel Dr.Clark and Nieman qualified to compete in the area contest by winning local competitions. Clark took first place in Downey's Toastmaster Club 587 Evaluation Contest held Aug. 4, while Nieman won first place in the Humorous Contest held Aug. 12. Local clubs such as Downey's Toastmaster Club 587 offer residents a chance to practice and hone communication and leadership skills. Toastmaster Club 587 meets every Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Downey, room 116, at 6 p.m.
