The Downey Rose Float Association this week released a rendering of its entry in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade. Designed by Thom Neighbors, the float is titled "Dew Drop By." The city of Downey authorizes 18 fireworks stands each year; if more than 18 non-profit organizations apply to sell fireworks, a lottery is held. This year, 20 non-profits applied. The Downey Rose Float's name was drawn but the Downey High School Cheer Boosters was not. As a result, the Rose Float offered the boosters club a chance to share the booth to raise money for both causes.
