DOWNEY - The driver of a Ford Escape SUV lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a water hydrant at Lakewood Boulevard near Cecilia Street, sending thousands of gallons of water 50 feet into the air last week.The driver was extracted from the vehicle by firefighters and transported to a local hospital. City crews worked about an hour before the water was shut off.
