DOWNEY – A team of Warren High students traveled to Palo Alto last Saturday to compete in the 2015 Hewlett-Packard CodeWars. Warren was the only public school from from Southern California to participate in the computer programming competition. Each team was given 20 computing problems that ranged from simple to extremely difficult. In the competition’s 18-year history, only one team as solved all 20 problems.

Warren High’s team, which included Christopher Acosta, Judyeong Cho and Daniel Alemu, solved 10 of the challenges, including some on the advanced level.

“I believe, strongly, that problem solving and communications skills are critical in a 21st Century workforce and expressing them as computer code is a must for knowledge workers,” said John Sontag, vice president and director of systems research at HP Lab. “Warren is unique as the lone public school participating from Southern California, and I truly appreciate this team.”
