LONG BEACH - Social satire, sexual tension and undergarments galore grace "The Underpants," a romantic comedy adaptation by Steve Martin that opens at the Long Beach Playhouse Studio Theatre on Aug. 13.Originally written in 1911 by Carl Sternheim, Martin adapted the production in 2002 when it premiered Off-Broadway at Classic State Company. After an unmentionable incident leaves Louise with her bloomers around her ankles in public, her husband Theo thinks his reputation and career is on the line. The ensuing shenanigans are fodder for Martin's genius wit and timing. "The Underpants" plays Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m., Aug. 13 through Sept. 10.
