Stay Gallery to showcase work of artist Marcus Gonzalo Bañuelos

DOWNEY — Stay Gallery is proud to present “en este tiempo,” a solo exhibition featuring new works by local artist Marcus Gonzalo Bañuelos.

The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception Friday, Sept. 13, from 7-10 pm.

After years of studying on the East Coast, Bañuelos has returned to Southern California, rekindling his connection to his roots and deepening his appreciation for the intimate world of home and community. This exhibition, a culmination of his recent works, offers a personal journey through the spaces and relationships that define his daily life and the essence of home. Bañuelos’ paintings bring to life the textures and emotions of his surroundings, from the warmth of family gatherings to the quietude of familiar places, all deeply influenced by his Mexican-American heritage.

This exhibition serves as a tribute to the people and places that have influenced Bañuelos, inviting viewers to reflect on their own connections to home, family, and identity. He hopes to evoke a sense of nostalgia, familiarity, and discovery, encouraging viewers to explore the nuances of personal and shared memory within the comforting setting of home.

Join Stay Gallery in celebrating the opening of “en este tiempo” on Friday. Meet the artist, enjoy refreshments, and immerse yourself in a night of local art and community. The event is open to all ages and free to the public. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP online and consider making a donation: staygallery.org/tiempo

Following the opening, the exhibition will be on view at Stay Gallery until Oct. 25 during open gallery hours: Saturdays from 12 to 4. Admission to Stay Gallery is free during open hours.
