DOWNEY — Sprouts Farmers Market submitted plans today to open a grocery store at the former Bed, Bath & Beyond location at the Downey Landing. 

The store is anticipated to open by October 2024, city officials said. 

“This is a significant milestone and economic development project that has been in the making for several months,” said Mayor Claudia Frometa. “I want our residents to know we heard them, I heard them. I want to extend our gratitude to our amazing city staff and city manager for their incredible work on this great new addition to our Downey business community.”

Frometa hinted that other major economic development news will be announced soon.

“I have been really advocating for Sprouts in our community, along with other really important economic development projects that will also be announced shortly,” said Frometa.
