DOWNEY — Southland Credit Union has launched a comprehensive renovation project at their 8545 Florence Ave. branch in Downey led by the Los Angeles-based architectural design & construction firm Worksmart Design.

Scheduled for completion in 2025, the interior and exterior renovation will transform the 61-year-old building. The modernization will focus on a complete interior and exterior renovation. The interior will feature an open and inviting branch space and on the second level, a collaborative workspace with upgraded technology and aesthetics. The exterior transformation includes a new inviting entrance and bold design overhaul, cutting through a large portion of exterior wall to introduce an indoor to outdoor connection – a truly Southern California touch.

“Worksmart is thrilled to bring this project to life for Southland Credit Union,” said Daniel Markham, CEO & Managing Partner of Worksmart. “The innovative design, both inside and out, reflects our commitment to creating dynamic, functional spaces. We’re excited to see how this transformation enhances the experience for both associates and Members.”

Southland Credit Union moved its corporate headquarters to the Florence Ave. building in 1981. At the time, the credit union was named Los Angeles County Civic Center Credit Union. The credit union headquarters remained in Downey until 2002, and Southland continues to utilize the Downey location as a branch and office.

“We’re excited to unveil our newly enhanced branch to the Downey community,” said Tom Lent, President & CEO of Southland Credit Union. “Along with our pride in our history in Downey, this remodel project reflects our commitment to serving our Members for many years ahead.”

A temporary branch is available to serve Southland Credit Union Members at 11101 La Reina Ave. in Downey. The La Reina Ave. branch will be open during the Florence Ave. location construction Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
