Singer, actress Vanessa Williams performing in Cerritos in January

Popular singer and actress Vanessa Williams will perform at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Jan. 13.

Williams boasts a rich and varied show business record. She's sold more than 7 million records, including "Running Back to You," "The Sweetest Days," "Dreamin," "Just for Tonight" and "The Comfort Zone." 

Her rendition of "Colors of the Wind" was nominated for an Oscar at the 68th Academy Awards in 1995. 

Williams first gained recognition as the first African-American Miss America in 1984 and since has gone on to prove her acting chops with various roles on television and movie screens. Her supporting role in "Ugly Betty" earned her three consecutive Emmy nominations and scored back-to-back NAACP Image Awards in 2007 and 2008. 

She garnered two more NAACP Image Awards for her work on the television series "Desperate Housewives." 

The native New Yorker cinched a Tony Award for her performance as The Witch in the Broadway musical "Into the Woods." She also appeared in a limited engagement of the Broadway musical "After Midnight" and co-starred with Cicely Tyson and Cuba Gooding Jr. in the acclaimed play "Trip to Bountiful." 

Williams' autobiography, "You Have No Idea," was a New York Times bestseller in 2012.
