Ronald Monahan

December 4, 1928 - July 5, 2016

Long time resident Ronald Monahan age 87 passed away at PIH Downey Hospital on Tuesday afternoon July 6th. Ronald is survived by his four children, Michael, Dennis, Thomas and Patricia. His six Grand Children, Nichole, Jason, Daylee, Danielle, Tara and Tesse. His three Great Grand Children, Jake, Cyler and Chloe.


Born December 4, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to James and Dorothy Monahan Ronald moved to Los Angeles in 1943. Ronald graduated from Fremont High School in 1947. After high school he went to work as a machinist and later changed his carrier to plumbing where he eventually became a superintendent in charge of many large still standing buildings including schools and hospitals in the Los Angeles area.


Ronald and his late wife La Verne (Feb 2013) purchased their home in Downey on Via Amorita St. in 1954 and have seen a great many changes within the city over the years. Ron was a great story teller and would recount many adventures about his childhood, construction projects/accidents and his golf game. Ron was an avid bowler until his retirement at which time he and La Verne took up golf playing up to three times a week with different clubs. In the early years Ron was active with Downey Little League, DJAA, YMCA and later the Downey Elks enjoying the social time and different activities including Bingo.


A Great Husband, Father, Grand Father, Great Grand Father and Friend to many Ron will truly be missed by all who knew him.
