DOWNEY - Margarita and Jerry Rogers were presented with the Mayor's Diakonia Award at the June 9 City Council meeting.Mayor Mario Guerra recognized both residents for their community involvement and for being active members of Unity in the Community, a grassroots organization that works to ensure safety in the Treasure Island neighborhood. The Mayor's Diakonia Award is presented each month to residents who give back to the community. Diakonia means "servant" in Greek.
