DOWNEY – Rep. Robert Garcia (CA-42) secured $850,000 for the new Downey YMCA as part of the new federal government funding package signed into law by President Joe Biden.

Garcia secured over $15 million in total for local projects, including $9.8 million for the Long Beach area.

Garcia served as Long Beach mayor before being elected to Congress.

“From affordable housing developments for seniors to renovating the Downey YMCA, these community projects aim to improve the lives of everyone in our district,” Garcia said. “As we continue to work hand in hand with local partners, it is my priority to advocate for funding that will serve folks from every corner of our district.”

The new Downey YMCA will replace the current facility at its same location on Downey Avenue.
