DOWNEY - Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center will host its annual Spinal Cord Injury Conference tomorrow at the Downey campus. The conference will bring together clinical leaders in medical rehabilitation to discuss new treatment strategies, medical complications of spinal cord injuries, assistive technologies, and issues related to community reintegration of persons living with spinal cord injuries, and related topics. "People with spinal cord injuries face very complex physical and emotional challenges in their recovery," said Jorge Orozco, CEO of Rancho. "This conference will provide practical tools and resources for clinicians to address these issues with their patients to improve outcomes and quality of life."Keynote speaker will be Richard Anderson, professor of neuroscience in the division of biology at the California Institute of Technology. He will discuss developments in neuroprothetics, a series of devices that can substitute a motor, sensory or cognitive modality damaged as a result of spinal cord injury.
