DOWNEY -- Deputy district attorney and L.A. Superior Court Judge candidate Efrain Aceves held an event in Downey on Thursday to meet with local residents, community leaders, and supporters from the legal field.

The campaign event was held in the private home of Mario Trujillo, a fellow L.A. deputy district attorney. Both Aceves and Trujillo serve out of the Norwalk Courthouse.

Among the event co-hosts were Downey Mayor Alex Saab, Mayor Pro Tem Fernando Vasquez, and Downey attorneys Ricardo Perez and Eber Bayona.

"Efrain Aceves is revered by prosecutors and defense attorneys alikeand he is esteemed by bench officers, as we can see by the judges and commissioners in attendance this evening," said Perez, who provided the welcoming remarks.

"The Los Angeles County Bar Association evaluated Efrain to be 'Well Qualified' to serve as judge. That is no surprise. Efrain places justice before ideology, fairness ahead of personal opinions, and integrity over ambition. Those are precisely the qualities that we seek from our bench officers.

"Efrain, we know you will be a great judge!"

Born in Mexico, Aceves graduated from UCLA and UCLA School of Law before being elected president of the Mexican American Bar Association (one of the largest Latino Bar Associations in the country), where he started sister bar associations in various Mexican states.

Aceves was elected and currently serves as president of the Whittier City School District.  Additionally, he serves on the PIH Health System Board of Directors, a regional health organization in Los Angeles County that serves Whittier, Downey, and other southeast cities.

Aceves has served in the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for the last 17 years and currently prosecutes child molestation cases. Among his many endorsements are those of the Jackie Lacey, who is the current Los Angeles District Attorney, and Steve Cooley, who is the former Los Angeles County District Attorney.

The election for LA Superior Court Judge Office Number 42 will be held on June 7. For questions or to learn more about the campaign, contact Campaign Headquarters at (562) 270-5923 or visit the campaign website at acevesforjudge.com.
