DOWNEY - Effective July 1, fees to purchase a niche at Downey Cemetery will increase to $800 - $1,300.The rate hike was approved by the Downey Cemetery District Trustees on Tuesday. Cemetery officials said niche and endowment fees have not been raised since the niche gardens were originally dedicated. Individuals can still purchase niches at their current rate until June 30. Downey Cemetery, located at 9073 Gardendale St., traces its history back to the 1870s and serves the cities of Downey, Bellflower, Paramount and parts of South Gate.
