No coronavirus cases in Downey, mayor says

DOWNEY - Downey Mayor Blanca Pacheco urged residents to remain vigilant against coronavirus after L.A. County declared a state of emergency Wednesday after six new confirmed cases of the virus.

Rumors also circulated on Facebook that the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Downey treating a coronavirus patient.

“I want to assure you that we have been monitoring this situation very closely and have been in constant contact with local partner agencies, including our local hospitals and school district, and there are no confirmed coronavirus cases here in Downey,” Pacheco said.

The mayor warned residents to protect themselves against scam artists who are trying to sell medications and other products for profit.

“There are no specific medication treatments or vaccinations approved at this time,” Pacheco said.

Health officials urged the public to practice good hygiene by washing their hands regularly, covering coughs and sneezes, and to stay home if they are sick.

“Rest assured that we will continue to be in constant communication with county officials and provide an updates we feel are necessary in a timely manner,” Pacheco said.
