DOWNEY - Army Pvt. Michael Gomez has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.During nine weeks of training, Gomez received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. He received additional training in development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and gained experience with various weapons and weapons defenses available to infantry crewmen. The son of Felipa Gomez, he graduated from Downey High School in 2007.
