DOWNEY — Downey City Council candidate Mario Trujillo has outraised all other candidates by nearly $100,000, according to recently filed mandated financial disclosures.

The disclosures provide a good look at who is supporting council hopefuls and where exactly campaign funds are coming from.

The most recent filing deadline came last week on Sept. 24.

District 5

Trujillo, who is campaigning for the citywide District 5 seat to replace Alex Saab, has surpassed all others in fundraising by a huge margin, specifically outraising his most prominent opponent Carrie Uva by more than $100,000.

Trujillo, a deputy district attorney, has raised $135,526 (including a $10,000 loan he gave to himself) and spent $64,286, according to the disclosures.

Uva, an attorney and realtor, has raised $27,849 and spent $10,736 for her campaign.

District 1

Incumbent mayor Blanca Pacheco has outraised her opponent, Alexandria, Contreras, by a 3 to 1 margin.

Pacheco raised $38,340, mostly from residents and businesses in Downey and surrounding areas.

Contreras has collected $11,993. Her campaign contributors include eight Downey residents or businesses and 14 from the San Francisco area or out of state.

District 1 covers southeast Downey, roughly south of Stewart & Gray Road and east of Brookshire Avenue.

District 3

Candidate Eric Pierce has raised $24,366 and spent $14,833. His contributions came primarily from within Downey, including some well-established community figureheads.

Catherine Alvarez has received $3,248 from donors, including $139 in non-monetary contributions.

A majority of her donations - $2,414 – came in donations of less than $100, which do not need to be reported with names attached.

District 3 encompasses northwest Downey, roughly north of Firestone Boulevard and west of Downey Avenue.
