Maria Reyes Sullivan

October 23, 1948 to September 30, 2015

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maria Reyes Sullivan announces the passing of Maria on September 30, 2015.


Maria was born in San Pedro, CA in 1948. She attended Banning High School in Wilmington, CA. Maria graduated from nursing school with an R.N. degree. She practiced at Los Angeles County San Pedro Health Center, Harbor UCLA, Downey Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, and Kaiser Bellflower hospital.


Maria had a liver transplant in 1993 and retired from her nursing career after the liver transplant.
In 1971 Maria married a new young dentist, Michael Sullivan. She helped with three dental practices that Dr. Sullivan operated (Downey, South Gate, and Long Beach Comprehensive Health Center).


Maria is survived by her husband Michael, her three children: Esteban Tim (Debbie), James Gabriel, and Patricia Helena, and her three beloved grandchildren: Delaney Rose, Esteban Theodore, and Mason Carter.


Maria had a giving and sparkling personality with a love for reading, travel, music, food, and a good soccer game. Maria left an invaluable impression on everyone embracing all those she met and loved. Maria will always be remembered for her truly kind heart, adventurous spirit, her kin appetite for soccer, and her remarkable beauty inside and out, especially in the way in which she lived…with gracious elegance.


A memorial service will be held at Miller Mies Downey Mortuary (10229 Paramount Blvd, Downey) on October 8th with visitation from 5-7pm and a Rosary beginning at 7pm. Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (555 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles) on October 9th at 1:30pm. Internment will be at San Gabriel Cemetery (601 Roses Road, San Gabriel).
