DOWNEY – Downey is hosting an information meeting this Saturday, May 2, at 9 a.m. at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center for residents interested in volunteering in Downey’s role as a Special Olympics World Games host town this summer. The meeting will focus on various volunteer opportunities and requirements when Downey hosts a delegation from Ireland in July.

Attendance Saturday is mandatory to receive an official volunteer application. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and speak English.

Host town volunteer opportunities are scheduled for the following days: Wednesday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Thursday, July 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Friday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be multiple shifts available for each day and, due to the city’s large commitment of being an official host town, those interested in volunteering must attend Saturday’s information meeting.
