Lifeguard training offered at DHS

DOWNEY -- Lifeguard certification training, approved by the American Red Cross, will be offered during spring break, April 13-17, at the Downey Aquatic Center at Downey Adult School.The course, offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will provide the necessary minimum skills training for a person to qualify to serve as a non-surf lifeguard. Students must be at least 15 years old at the time of the course to participate (proof of age is necessary at time of registration). Students will receive certificates of completion on the final day of class if they pass both the written and physical testing. The fee for the week is $110, which includes the training book, pocket mask and certification card. Registration is underway at City Hall.
