Library’s February auction items

DOWNEY – The Friends of the Downey City Library holds monthly silent auctions to raise money for library programs. February’s auction items include:

  • “Be the Pack Leader” (practical tips help you understand your dog…and yourself!);
  • “The Beatles – A Private View” (Robert Freeman traveled with the Beatles in their early days as photographer and friend);
  • “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” (more than 160 years after its publication this book is still controversial, but has gained a place in American history);
  • “One Hundred and One African-American Read-Aloud Stories” (full of legend and lore, traditional songs and poetry);
  • “Home Baking” (the age old rhythm of turning simple ingredients into something delicious);
  • “The World of Garden Design” (bring home the magic of some of the most beautiful gardens in the world);
  • “Historical Atlas of California” (lavishly illustrated covering 500 years of California history);
  • “Love-A Century of Love and Passion” (stories and pictures of the most famous couples of the 20th century);
  • “The House of Eliott-Complete Collection” (34 episodes on 12 discs);
  • “Nature’s Medicine-Plants That Heal” (a chronicle of mankind’s search for healing plants through the ages);
  • “At Home-A Short History of Private Life” (Bill Bryson shows us how history has affected each room in our house);
  • “Lincoln – A Foreigner’s Quest” (a foreigner’s perspective gives us a look at Lincoln free of sentiment and nostalgia); “

Books have opening bids from $6-$10 and are on display in the library lobby. Bids can be made through noon, Saturday, Feb. 28, on cards in the Friend’s Bookstore which is located in the young adult section of the library.
