Letters to the Editor: Downey City Council

Dear Editor:

In a few short months the trio on our City Council has managed to dismantle a century of stability in Downey. We have lost our top five management personnel, and a city council member.

What is next on their chopping block? What else do they have in mind to replace then control? Our beloved fire department? Our amazing police department? Our effective waste management provider?

So far, all this team has touched has been ruined. We, the residents of Downey, need to clean house ourselves. Let’s begin by supporting the recall campaign in district 3. Join the movement to save Downey.

Dear Editor:

It would be good if the City Council would explain to taxpayers why they voted for $25,000 to be given for a Gay Pride celebration and another $28,000 to keep Stay Gallery open and then pay $123,250 to a public relations group to come to Downey to try to tell us how to vote and then raise taxes on hotels to pay for their overspending.

I’m asking the City Council to reverse their decision on the Pride festival. This is not something taxpayers should have to pay for. Spend the money on road repairs, etc. where it is needed.
