Letter to the Editor: Protect Social Security

Dear Editor:

Before DOGE makes it disappear, print out your social security earnings statement. Do it quickly, like today.

On March 4, President Trump said he is paying for his tax cut for billionaires by using your social security benefits.

How did he do this? He has a tell, a pattern of announcing in advance what he’s going to do. His tells build up. He continues lying and lying to justifies illegal actions.

He did this before Jan. 6 and the traitorous raid on the capitol. Remember the texts to his supporters, “Join me in DC. It will be great!”

On March 4, he lied about non-existent Social Security payments to people who do not exist on the Social Security database. He spent a great amount of time lying about payments not made to dead people.

These lies have been debunked multiple times, but he keeps repeating them in order to cut your Social Security.

Every year he was president he tried to cut Social Security.

Social Security has worked for 86 years. It can be solvent for another 75 years just by scrapping the cap on earnings that allows billionaires, like Elon Musk, to pay the same amount into Social Security as a truck driver.

As of 2025, the maximum taxable earnings subject to Social Security is $176,100. Democrats have called for an end to the cap on taxable earnings, arguing that the burden falls unfairly on middle- and working-class Americans. Elon Musk earned $176,100 at 15 minutes after midnight on January 1, 2025.

Every month, 73 million Americans depend on Social Security benefits they have earned. They have paid for already. Social Security is not a government handout. (Unlike the numerous tax breaks and subsidies that billionaires like Elon Musk and giant corporations get courtesy of American taxpayers.)

Tell Congress: If Social Security misses payments even once, millions upon millions of Americans — who have already paid into the system — will suffer.
