Dear Editor:

I’m writing to let Ojos Locos know we see you.

WE see you defining yourself as a restaurant, avoiding bar regulations.

WE see you choosing a location right in our children’s school zone where they feel safe now.

WE see you trying to pretend you will modify your soft porn uniforms just to get your foot in our door.

WE see you and the long list of murders and shootings and drug violence that plagues you.

WE see you having your 2-7pm happy hour that will coincide with our children’s school and extra curricular hours.

WE see you ignoring how you’ll destroy the quality of life for the 120 seniors that live behind your proposed bar.

WE see you treating your young female employees as irrelevant sex objects and how the federal government sued and won a lawsuit for $700,000 because you sexually harassed and retaliated against those young girls.

WE see you thought we are a city that will allow you to destroy our city image with the criminal element you are a magnet for.

WE see you being informed we don’t want you here and you still insist on coming to our beautiful Downey.

WE see you underestimating our community thinking we’d be naive enough to let you thrive so close to our children.

WE see you and we hope you see us.

WE are a community that will not stop until every parent, church member, service group, every Downey Citizen will understand how you will cause irrevocable harm to our city image, our city safety, and most of all our city’s children.

We see you and we make sure every other community sees you too.

Dear Editor:

Upon arriving at Downey City Hall Tuesday evening to attend the city council meeting, I was met at the door by a police officer who informed me that our city council members had decided to hold a virtual meeting “due to Covid.”

Those of us gathered outside the chambers had come to express our dismay with the recently approved Ojos Locos sports bar which is to be located on Firestone across from Downey High School and the Embassy Suites.

I find it curious that our US Senate and House members can meet in person and unmasked but our city council cannot. Perhaps they did not want to face their very unhappy constituents.

During the lively exchange that took place outside it was revealed that Ojos Locos liquor license was quietly approved a year ago in March of 2021. The citizens of Downey are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the way our city is being governed and we are ready to do something about it.
