This is written in response to Jorge Montero’s Oct. 8 letter in which he writes about the lack of daily periodicals available to Downey City Library patrons.

Mr. Montero and the public should know about the Press Reader app, which is available to any Downey City Library patron. With this free app, our patrons can read any of 7,000 publications.

Included are not only big name publications, such as the LA Times and the Chicago Tribune, as well as many foreign language newspapers and magazines. It can be downloaded on smart phones, tablets, PC’s and laptops. Using this app, the publication chosen can remain on that device as long as the patron wishes. Not only are current issues of these publications available, but many back issues are as well.

Should anyone have a question about this or what other programs the library has to offer, please ask a staff member. My personal experience is that the library staff will go out of their way to solve problems and answer questions.
