LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Dale Lostetter

Dear Editor:

My name is Dr. Edward A. Sussman, retired Superintendent of the Downey Unified School District (1986-2003).  This letter is in memory of Dale Lostetter, long time, teacher and administrator.

Dale Lostetter grew up in Downey, graduated from Warren High School, served his country in Viet Nam, came back to live in Downey, became a teacher, administrator and a source of tremendous pride to not only the school district, but to the entire community.

I had the pleasure of working with him for over 20 years. Dale Lostetter was highly respected by his students, parents, community leaders and educators everywhere. He had a big heart and always had time to listen to students. He had an impact on this school district that helped make it the success it is today. I know that I personally am a better person for having known him and I was very proud to call him my friend.

The passing of Dale leaves a big void in the entire education community and he will be missed by all of us.

Edward A. Sussman, Ed.D.
DUSD Superintendent (Retired)
