Dear Editor:

I would like to commend the Downey Patriot for bringing to our attention important topics regarding our environment. Trees in Downey, for instance, are of great interest to our community.

When I came to Downey 36 years ago there were a lot of trees, now we have fewer, and we notice our community is getting hotter as we go for walks. We need to plant more trees to produce shade, oxygen and to absorb carbon dioxide.

Planting trees is a key component to combat climate change.
