Letter to the Editor: City bureaucrats

Dear Editor:

It is unrealistic to expect from non-elected bureaucrats, who never had to meet a payroll or compete in the business world, to understand the needs of businesses and how to address them.

Deputy City Manager Aldo Schindler (Letters to the Editor, 8/12/21) asks for applause for “only” charging $6,583 for an application fee when it cost the city $11,792.0 to process it. He should put emphasis in reducing that cost that is too high, probably due to empire building by the city staff.

The city needs to improve the quality of the employees dealing with businesses. A solution could be to offer part time work to multiple retired businessmen who may want to entertain themselves while helping the city at the same time.

Mr. Schindler’s long-winded defense of the city’s business practices clearly shows they use the wrong approach. A better way would be to run efficient operations that do not need to be defended.
