Dear Editor:

A simple Google search reveals that in the state of California, perjury is punishable by up to three years in prison. Another two searches reveal that shoplifting and welfare fraud are punishable to a combined year of jail time.

Why Councilwoman Catherine Alvarez isn’t serving out her 4 year sentence in a cell and instead making decisions on our honorable city council is a stain on our great city.

Apparently some on our council hired blind men to investigate this two-bit criminal now approved to serve the citizens of Downey. Justice must be served against the felon representing our community.

Why is it OK for for someone convicted of fraud, perjury and theft to be allowed to serve on the City Council? Is there any reason for anyone to trust her?

Dear Editor:

So this is what Downey has come to? We have a convicted felon on the City Council and there is nothing we can do about it.

Last year, we had three candidates running to represent District 3. One candidate, in my opinion, clearly stood out from the rest. But instead we elected a literal thief and criminal because she ran on a platform of free rent. What an embarassment.

I don’t know if this is an indictment on Downey residents specifically or our country as a whole.
