Lawrence Charles Cowan

On May 22, 2020, Lawrence Charles Cowan passed away at 80 years of age from Congestive Heart Failure.
Larry was born and raised in Compton, Ca., where he graduated from Compton High School and Compton Junior College. In 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Bauman. They were married 61 years. They went on to have three boys, David, Michael, and Jerry. In 1964 they moved to Downey, CA.
Larry worked for Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Studios (The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, and Charlotte’s Web) where he became the Supervising Film Editor and retired after 42 years in the animation business.
He loved all sports. He was President of our Northwest Downey Little League in 1970 - 1971, while also managing the Giants baseball team. To this day former players and spectators still refer to him as “Coach”. If he was not coaching he could be found umpiring little league games. Golfing with his friends took him on weekend trips to many California courses and abroad. His favorite course was St. Andrews in Scotland. Water skiing trips with family and friends was a fun summer activity he always enjoyed. He was an avid bridge player and was in a couples bridge group, playing once a month for over 40 years.
Larry thoroughly enjoyed cruising the high seas with Wanda and friends. They took at least 35 cruises vacationing all over the world. Bus tours kept them busy exploring the United States.
Family was his most important reason for living. He was a loving, kind, fun, and generous man and he will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his wife, Wanda, three sons, David, Michael (Julie), and Jerry (Gigi), seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
