Crime Report, provided by Downey Police Department: Thursday, March 12

At around 1:55 a.m., Downey officers responded to the 7300 Block of Florence Ave in regards to an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven. A male suspect wearing a black ski mask and dark hooded jacket and gray pants entered the store and pointed a semi-auto handgun at the store clerk, demanding money. The suspect left the location on foot with the money. The store clerk was not injured.

Saturday, March 14

At around 5:10 p.m., a license plate reader identified a stolen vehicle in the area of Firestone and Stewart and Gray. A Downey Officer observed the stolen vehicle, which was a brown Honda, and stopped it near Woodruff Avenue. The suspect, a Norwalk resident, was taken into custody without incident. He was booked for Grand Theft Auto and the case will presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing.

During the evening hours, Downey Police Officers worked a foot beat in the Downtown Downey area. They provided a uniform presence in the area and issued several citations for various alcohol related offenses. Friday, March 20

Last Thursday, March 12th, Downey Detectives arrested a freshman at Warren High School for making threats on social media. The specific threat made was that there would be a shooting on the Warren Campus on March 20th. The investigation revealed that the threat was meant as a joke and that there were no other suspects involved. The suspect was booked for criminal threats and later released to his parents. The case will presented to the courts for a criminal filing.

During today’s school session, Downey Officers, both uniformed and in plain clothes, were on campus and provided extra patrol. Even though we had no specific knowledge of a credible threat, DUSD officials and Downey Police made it a priority to provide extra police presence to ensure the safety and help ease any concerns of the students, parents, and faculty.
