LAKEWOOD - Howard Chambers will remain with the city of Lakewood as city manager but on an interim basis after the City Council approved a new contract with its highest-ranking employee last week.Chambers, 66, was set to retire Feb. 11 but will instead take a four-month reprieve before returning in June on a part-time basis. Chambers will be paid $8,000 per month as interim city manager, a pay cut from the $240,600 he was earning as a full-time employee. Lakewood officials said the city will save more than $200,000 over the next two fiscal years.
