Lady Bears on their way to 4th consecutive league title

DOWNEY – The Warren High School girls’ soccer team currently has an overall record of 15-2 and are 5-0 in San Gabriel Valley League play, with four shutouts.

The Lady Bears defeated cross-town rival Downey last Thursday 1-0 with an early goal from Amanda Macedo and a penalty kick save by senior goalkeeper Dominique Valadez.

For the first time in 10 years, the Warren girls’ soccer team won the Best in the West Soccer Tournament. Preseason wins over local teams Long Beach Poly and Esperanza were huge for the Lady Bears.

Warren head coach Lily Dussan is extremely pleased with the outstanding performance of three freshman players. Dussan maintains that freshmen Sylvia Quintero, Drew Gutierrez and Carisia Raygoza have all played beyond their years on the pitch.

Warren is on their way to a fourth S.G.V.L. championship in a row. Thus far, the Lady Bears have scored 76 goals and have tallied 13 shutouts with only eight goals scored against. Dussan says that the Lady Bear defense has been “solid” this season and helps explain the shutouts.

The leading goal scorers for Warren thus far are have been junior Nayeli Carcamo, Lesly Gonzalez and freshman Carisia Raygoza. Raygoza has also had many assists alongside Citlali Vergara-Garcia and Nayeli Carcamo

Coach Dussan hopes to finish the season off with a fourth straight S.G.V.L. championship and a deep run in the C.I.F. Division 2 playoffs.
