Joyce Jacqueline Gatchet

August 1, 1929 - July 5, 2019

Long-time Downey resident Joyce Jacqueline Gatchet passed away at her home on July 5, 2019 at the age of 89.

Born Joyce Jacqueline Bruton, she was born in Leach, Oklahoma in 1929. Her family relocated to Silverton, Oregon in 1942, where she met and married her husband, Norma Paul Gatchet in 1947. They had two sons, Steven Wayne and Russell Norman. In 1954, the Gatchet family moved to California, where they had their youngest child, Sandra Gaye, and pursued their careers in owning and operating The Longfellow Grill Restaurant in Huntington Park. In 1974, they moved to Downey. They retired in 1985, and enjoyed traveling, gardening and socializing at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center in Downey. Joyce was widowed in 2009, and continued to reside in their Downey home with her daughter (Sandra) and son-in-law (Steven), until the time of her peaceful passing in her sleep early Friday, July 5, 2019.

Viewing will take place at Miller-Mies Downey Mortuary on July 11, 4:00-8:00pm. Memorial services will be held at Miller Mies at 10:00am on Friday, July 12.

Joyce is survived by her children, Steven Wayne Gatchet and Sandra Gaye Kinion, her four grandchildren, Cary Russell, Roger Steven, Kelly Michelle and Traci Lynn, and her four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Steven, Tahler and Wesley, and her three sisters, Vernas, Zetta and Lois.
