DOWNEY - Downey resident J. Stephen Reed passed away Feb. 4 at his home. He was 53.He was born in Dayton, Ohio, to John H. and Margaret M. Reed on Jan. 19, 1959 and grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Urbandale High School in 1977 as an honors student and graduated from Northwestern University in 1981 with a BA in history. He worked as a computer typographer in Chicago and later became an independent software consultant. In 2001, he moved to California. His death was brought on by natural causes related to his diabetic condition. Survivors include his brother, Tim, whom he lived with in Downey. Memorial services are pending. The body was cremated.
