Ilene Davilla was mother of two

DOWNEY - Ilene Davilla, a 35-year Downey resident, passed away March 29.She was born in Long Beach on June 24, 1924 to William and Beulah Glaue. She had one brother, Carl. She graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1942. She met her husband, Charles, during the high school commencement ceremony as they were paired together in the procession. After high school, she graduated from Long Beach Secretarial College. World War II got underway soon after Ilene and Charles graduated high school. Charles was drafted and they had to wait to be married. Finally, they were wed on May 3, 1945. Ilene was a war bride, following her husband from a military base in Douglas, Ariz. to a military base in San Bernardino. While they lived on the bases, Ilene worked as a secretary. When their first child, Charlene, was born, Ilene became a stay-at-home mom. Eight years later, she had her second child, Daniel. During those years, Ilene was an active volunteer at her children's schools, including the PTA and as a teacher's helper. Ilene lived the past 35 years in Downey, and is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Daniel; daughter, Charlene Taylor; son-in-law, Gregory Taylor; and grandchildren, Eric, Deborah and Kevin Taylor.
