Hit-and-run victim identified as Downey man

DOWNEY – A 39-year-old man who was struck by three vehicles on a Long Beach street was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

David Saltman, of Downey, was pronounced dead at the scene where he was struck around 2:30 a.m. June 9 the 2600 block of East Pacific Coast Highway, near Molino Avenue, according to the medical examiner and Long Beach Police Department.

According to police, Saltman — who was crossing PCH outside of a crosswalk — was initially struck by a motorist who fled the scene. The man was then struck by a 2017 Kia Sportage, the driver of which pulled over and called 911, police said.

“While the driver was waiting for police to respond, they observed the pedestrian being struck again by a white truck and dragged east of Molino Avenue,” according to police. “The truck fled the scene ahead of officers’ arrival. The driver of Kia Sportage stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation.”

Long Beach police urged anyone with information about the death to call them at 562-570-5130. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477, or tips may be sent to lacrimestoppers.org.
