Here are the candidates running for Downey city council, school board

DOWNEY — The filing period ended today for residents interested in running for Downey city council or school board.

Mayor Mario Trujillo is being challenged for his District 5 citywide seat by Rudy Sandoval and Joaquin Beltran, pending verification of their voter signatures by L.A. County.

District 3 councilwoman Dorothy Pemberton is challenged by planning commissioner Louis Morales.

District 1 councilman Horacio Ortiz is unopposed.

Four school board members are up for re-election but only one is being challenged. Board member Giggy Perez-Saab will run against Juan “Joey” Martinez.

Board members Jose Rodriguez, Linda Saldana and D. Mark Morris will run unopposed.
