DOWNEY — Following an early morning shooting that left four people wounded, Mayor Claudia M. Frometa said Downey will consider curfews, security cameras and other measures to make Downtown Downey safer.

The shooting was reported at 1:20 am at Mambo Grill restaurant and bar. The four victims are expected to survive.

Police are still searching for the shooter, who fled in a vehicle.

“I am angry,” Frometa wrote on Facebook. “I am angry the cowards who opened fire on patrons at Mambo Grill overnight got away. I am angry these random acts of violence are spilling into our Downey.

“While we cannot control criminal behavior, we can control the following in our city, and as your mayor, will be taking steps to enforce.”

Frometa said Downey “will be looking at downtown curfews and discussing current closing times for bars,” as well as occupancy limits at downtown establishments.

She also promised to enforce live entertainment permits and sound levels, and consider installing security cameras on Downey Avenue between Firestone Boulevard and 3rd Street.
