DOWNEY -- Floor & Decor, a specialty retailer of hard-surface flooring, will open the door to its new Downey location -- the company's fifth store in California -- on Dec. 17. 

The 73,000-square-foot Floor & Decor retail store and design center, located in the new Promenade at Downey, opens with a team of about 40 employees led by Bryan Audiss, the new store’s Chief Executive Merchant.

“Floor & Decor is thrilled to open our doors in Downey,” said Audiss. “With the launch of our fifth store in the state, we are committed to providing Californians with an extensive array of flooring products at unbeatable prices, and we look forward to forming relationships with this great community, one shopper at a time.”

Established in 2000, Georgia-based Floor & Decor offers free design services and carries more than 1 million square feet of in-stock flooring.

To celebrate the new store in Downey, Floor & Decor is inviting guests to register for a makeover giveaway, with a $5,000 gift card to be awarded to one lucky recipient. Registration at the Downey location begins Jan. 9 and concludes Feb. 19.

Following its Dec. 17 grand opening, the Downey Floor & Decor store will host a family-friendly “Super Saturday” event on Jan. 9, beginning at 11 a.m. A BMX bike show – with appearances by professional riders Dylan Stark and brothers Matt and Joey Cordova – will entertain the crowd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A BMX bike will be given away to one lucky viewer following the performance.

Additionally, The Grilled Cheese Truck will be available from 12-2 p.m. Food from The Grilled Cheese Truck will be free for the first 200 food truck guests.

Perhaps the most enticing of Floor & Decor’s Super Saturday activities on Jan. 9 is the $1 million dice roll. Beginning at noon, the first 200 shoppers ages 18 and older in line for the dice roll will have the opportunity to roll a set of six customized dice, each marked with one letter to spell “F-L-O-O-R-S,” for the chance to win $1 million. Prizes will be awarded for the following dice combinations:

• Roll any four letters, win a $100 Floor & Decor merchandise card

• Roll any five letters, win a $1,000 Floor & Decor merchandise card

• Roll all six letters to spell FLOORS, win the grand prize of $1 million

The dice roll contest will conclude when 200 people have participated or at 2 p.m., whichever occurs first.

On Jan. 13, Floor & Decor will host a private event for industry professionals in the local community. In addition to networking opportunities, area pro attendees will be invited to enter for a chance to win a $5,000 cash prize, courtesy of Floor & Decor.

In addition to this event, the Floor & Decor Downey store will host an official ribbon-cutting on Jan. 13 at 4:30 p.m. Representatives from area chambers of commerce – including those for Downey, Pico Rivera, Greater Lakewood, Paramount, Montebello, Norwalk, and the City of Commerce Industrial Council – will be in attendance.
