Eunice Hammond

July 11, 1925 - April 2, 2020

Eunice grew up in Farmington, Maine, on a farm with her three sisters. She attended a one-room schoolhouse with 10-20 students until she went to high school in Farmington, then graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Business Administration and had a career as an accountant. “wanderlust” brought her and some friends to California in the late 50’s.
Eunice Hammond, a beloved Friend of the Downey City Library and long-time member of their board serving as treasurer and president recently moved up to Washington State to be near family. Her love of libraries has been reflected in her years of volunteer work with our library here in Downey working in the Friend’s Book Store along with years of involvement with Downey Meals on Wheels.
Eunice succumbed to injuries from a ruptured brain aneurysm on April 2, 2020. She is survived by her sisters Rowena Swain and Ramona Russell both of Maine plus many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews who fondly called her “Aunt Eu”. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
