DOWNEY - The Assistance League of Downey, with the Gypsy Johnson Auxiliary, has awarded 11 scholarships totaling $9,000 to local high school students.The students include Richere Bernard, Jacob Michael, Jessica Morales and Catherine Pudlik Tan, of Downey High School; Michelle Bertinelli, Amy Gebert, Christina Gera and Joseph Marian, of Warren; and Priscilla Ornelas, Sarahi Palencia and Malachai Pulido, of Columbus. "The Assistance League values the contributions these students have made to the community and encourages them to continue with their volunteerism in the future," the service organization said in a prepared statement.
