DOWNEY – A funeral mass was held March 4 for Edelmira Garcia, who died Feb. 20 in Downey. She was 96.

She was born to Bonifacio Gonzalez and Angelica Martinez in Las Villas, Cuba. She was preceded in death by her husband, Severo L. Garcia, who passed away Feb. 14, 2005. 

She is survived by her daughters, Maria Santiago, Estrella (George) Pajon and son, John Garcia; grandchildren Maria (Don) Nickle, George (Naomi) Pajon Jr., Lillian M. Santiago, Elizabeth (Stephen) Williams, Ed (Alejandra) Santiago and Johnny (Lupe) Garcia, Christal C. Garcia and Anthony Garcia; and great-grandchildren Donald Nickle III, Brandon Nickle, Ashley Nickle, Elena Williams, David Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Garcia Jr., Crystal Garcia and Ryan Garcia. 

Father Joseph Magdaong led the funeral service held at Our Lady of Perpetual Church in Downey. Burial was at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood.
