DOWNEY - Parents of students who wish to attend a Downey school outside their attendance area must turn in an application during the open enrollment period Feb. 1-29. Applications are not processed on a first-come basis. Instead, the Downey Unified School District holds a lottery to place students on a waiting list for their preferred school. Schools may accept students from the waiting lists according to priority, but only if space is available. New students (including kindergartners) entering a Downey school should register at their school of residence first to guarantee registration in the district for the new school year.
