DUI checkpoint Friday night
DOWNEY – A DUI and driver’s license checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location in Downey this Friday night, Dec. 19, starting at 8 p.m. Drunk driving collisions have killed four people in Downey over the past three years,” said Sgt. Perry Miller of the Downey Police Department. An additional 364 were injured.
Police officers will be looking for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, while also checking licenses.
“Drugs which may impair driving not only include illegal narcotics, but many prescription drugs, marijuana, and even some over-the counter medications,” police officials warned.
Meanwhile, a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in Bellflower last Friday night resulted in dozens of arrested.
According to sheriff’s department statistics, , more than 1,800 vehicles passed through the checkpoint at Lakewood Boulevard and Oak Street. Six people were arrested for driving under the influence (including five drivers allegedly high on marijuana).
Twenty-eight unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court.
