DOWNEY — The Downey Unified School District announced its policy to serve free nutritious meals to all students every school day under what is known as the “Seamless Summer Option.”

This nationwide waiver will allow students the ability to access breakfast and lunch at no charge from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

After a short break at the end of July, Downey Unified’s Food Service staff is back in action and will again be making free breakfast and lunch meals accessible to students during morning, snack and/or lunch breaks at all 20 school locations:

• Gallatin Elementary- 9513 Brookshire Ave., Downey, CA 90240

• Gauldin Elementary- 9724 Spry St., Downey, CA 90242

• Imperial Elementary- 8133 Imperial Hwy., Downey, CA 90242

• Lewis Elementary- 13220 Bellflower Blvd., Downey, CA 90242

• Old River Elementary- 11995 Old River School Rd., Downey, CA 90242

• Price Elementary- 9525 Tweedy Ln., Downey, CA 90240

• Rio Hondo Elementary- 7731 Muller St., Downey, CA 90241

• Rio San Gabriel Elementary- 9338 Gotham St., Downey, CA 90241

• Unsworth Elementary- 9001 Lindsey Ave., Downey, CA 90240

• Sussman Middle School- 12500 Birchdale Ave., Downey, CA 90242

• Columbus High School- 12330 Woodruff Ave., Downey, CA 90241

• Downey High School- 11040 Brookshire Ave., Downey, CA 90241

• Warren High School- 8141 De Palma St., Downey, CA 90241

For those students who are attending school via online learning and for all other children 18 years of age and under, breakfast and lunch can be accessed at no charge from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations:

• Carpenter Elementary- 9439 Foster Rd., Downey, CA 90242

• Rio San Gabriel Elementary- 9338 Gotham St., Downey, CA 90241

Families who usually apply and/or participate in the free and reduced-price meal program do not need to submit an application for this program as meals are free to all students through the remainder of the 2021-22 school year. A Supplemental Benefits Form, which gathers similar details, was included within Downey Unified’s registration process in an effort to obtain the needed information to meet state and federal requirements.
