Downey Symphony announces 2018-19 season schedule

DOWNEY -- Season tickets are now available for the Downey Symphony’s 60th anniversary season, which kicks off this October. 


The 60th season includes three concerts, all at the Downey Theatre. 


Kicking off the season Oct. 20 is the return of composer Oscar Navarro, who wrote the internationally renowned “Downey Overture.” Titled “Viva la Musica!”, the concert includes a performance by clarinetist David van Maele. 


The next concert, “Stories in Song,” is Jan. 19, 2019. 


This concert bring back Downey resident Lars Clutterham as a featured composer and Anthony Moreno as narrator. This will mark the world premiere of Clutterham’s latest work, “The Arc of My Life.” Music by Mozart also will be performed. 


The season wraps April 6 with a special solo by pianist Bernadene Blaha. 


Titled “Gershwin!”, this concert features performances of Gershwin’s most noted works, plus Gershwin favorites sung by Rachel Lorenzetti. 


The opening piece will be conducted by Christopher Parks, winner of the symphony’s 2018 baton auction. 


Season tickets to all three concerts are $25 for students and $85-$95 for everyone else. Individual tickets are also available.
