DOWNEY – Downey High School hosted its second annual Mentor Breakfast last Thursday, where more than 80 local business professionals met with students to help prepare them for life after graduation. 

More than 200 students attended the breakfast, where they were arranged to sit with people in professions such as real estate, finance, interior design, marketing, law enforcement, nursing, fire and safety, animation, physical fitness, and entrepreneurship. 

Students interacted one-on-one with professionals, asking questions and receiving detailed guidance on their specific occupation. 

"We are very proud to be hosting this second annual event," said Downey High principal Tom Houts. "Our goal is to have more events like this annually that will assist students with these significant life decisions." 

“The district’s vision is to prepare all students, upon graduation, to be college and career ready, globally competitive and citizens of strong character,” added school board president D. Mark Morris. “Events such as this one, put on by Downey High, significantly contribute to moving us forward toward our vision.”
